Will there be a photographer on site?
Yes! Lakehead Athletics Photographer, Mike Lavoie, will be covering our event and will have a link to his site where you can view or purchase pictures. We will post his link shortly.
Will any massage services will be provided?
Yes! Lakehead Athletics - Sports Medicine Clinic Massage Therapist - Debra McKnock will be available from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. She will be located in the Aerobics Studio.
Does each team member have to run the same distance or can we have different runners running different distances (provided we complete the full distance of course)?
The Marathon Relay is intended to allow runners of all abilities to participate. There are no rules related to the minimum or maximum number of laps each team member must run. Some teams may choose to have their more experienced runner run more laps than their less experienced runners. Similarly, relay runners may each run all of their laps consecutively, or choose to take breaks while other team members run. Be creative for what works best and provides the most enjoyment for your team.
Do participants have to raise money IN ADDITION to the entry fee? Or is the entry fee sufficient?
This event is being hosted to raise funds for Children's Centre Foundation Thunder Bay in order to fund mental health counselling and other services for children and families. While there are no requirements to raise funds beyond the basic entry fee, we are strongly encouraging it. Runners who do not wish to fundraise may consider "topping up" their entry fee with a donation, for which a charitable tax receipt will be issued.
Will Head Phones be allowed?
No, the running conditions will be tight at the Hangar and it will be important that you are able to hear runners coming up from behind. There will be music playing throughout the Hangar for enjoyment.
Will you have runners reverse directions at some point to help reduce the possibility of repetitive-use injury?
Yes, we will announce changes in direction every 60 minutes.
Where is the Hangar Located?
The Hangar is located on the beautiful Lakehead University Campus at 955 Oliver Rd. It is adjacent to the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse, across from the entrance to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
How do I get in the Hangar?
You will need to enter through the main entrance to the C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse and check in at the Reception Desk. Day lockers will be available. From the bottom of the stairs, turn left and follow the hallway into the Hangar. Signs will be posted. There is no entrance directly into the Hangar available.
Is there a cut-off time for runners?
No, runners can take as much time as they would like for their events. However, the events will each take place as mentioned above, including the awards ceremony, regardless if runners are done or not.
What if I am injured or can't run? Can I get my money back?
Sorry, entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
What if there is a major snowstorm the day of the marathon and the roads are barely driveable?
The race will go on!
Is there a fee for spectators?
No, it's free for spectators
Where will the results be posted?
We will post the results on this website as well as in the Chronicle Journal newspaper
How will laps be counted?
Runners will have a chip attached to their ankle on a velcro band and the chip will relay lap counts to the scoring system. Relay runners will have to pass their band to their teammates. One chip per relay team.
Will there be food for the runners?
Yes, we will have a nice variety of food for runners after the race.
How about water and sports drinks?
We will have one drink stop with water. We encourage runners to bring their own drinks in bottles if they require a beverage other than water. We will have a designated area for those bottles.
Will there be medical assistance at the Hangar?
Yes, we will have at least one licensed athletic therapist on site.
Where can I get my pledge form?
Pledge forms are available on this site under the registration section. Prizes will be awarded to the runner with the most pledges.
Is all the money raised going to the THUNDERWOLF or to charitable organizations as well?
Proceeds from the event will be used in support of Children's Centre Foundation Thunder Bay. This is a registered charity supporting mental health and counselling services to children and their families. Proceeds from this particular event will be targeted to providing parenting programs and the operation of a walk-in counselling program, allowing immediate assistance to those who need it urgently.
