Wolves Team Preview

Now that the season on the mats has begun, it's time to learn more about this year's teams and events to be held at Lakehead.† This season, the Wolves are looking to improve upon their CIS and OUA standing from the year before. With a good mix of second and third year grapplers and a number of them with National and International results; the future looks bright.† This season Lakehead Wrestling will again stage the Womenís Championship Cup of Wrestling as well as the Menís National Duals Meet on December 3rd at the Hangar.† As well, Lakehead will host the OUA Championships in March.

Lakehead also added to their coaching staff, hiring Owen Dawkins as Co-Coach. Owen has a number of years coaching at all levels, including a position as Assistant Coach at University Of Alberta.† Owen has had a lot of international wrestling experience, including a second place finish at the Pan-Am Championships and stints on both the Canadian National Junior and Senior Team.† Owen will be hands on and the main Mat Coach for the Thunderwolves.

The past summer was a productive one for Lakehead Wrestlers. Tasha Eady wrestled in two International events, the Austrian Ladies Open and the Junior World Championships and she placed third in both.† Tasha was the only Canadian to win a medal at this year's Junior World Championship.† Chris Camarata and Dave Rector also competed at the Junior World Championships; both wrestling well.†

The fourth Lakehead Wrestler competing internationally was Yasin Kaya.† Kaya wrestled at this year's FISU Games in his hometown of Izmir; Turkey competing in Greco Roman Wrestling.† Yasin was recognized by FISU by being awarded the FISU Fair Play award; the only athlete from the more than 9,000 at the Summer Universiade to be given this prestigious award.

Returning from last year's team are; Chris Camarata, Mark Crockett, Mitch Fryia, Clayton Sereres, Ryan MacLeod, Andrew Elliott, Yasin Kaya, Andrew Larson, Dave Rector, Darren Manion and Dante Garvina. On the women's side: Jessica George, Michelle Gorrie, Sara Silva, Alex Demars, Tasha Eady, Emily McCague, Christina Jones, Katie Patroch (took last year off) and Katie Woodfinden.

New faces include; Leah Dordaughty, Amya Glad, Betheny Ellis (Hammarskjold), Michelle Araya (Hammarskjord) on the womenís side and Chris Britt and Scott Baines for the men.
