Brock Invitational Results
Lakehead university's men's and women's teams had some mixed results at the Brock Invitational Dual Wrestling tournament this weekend in St. Catherines’ Ontario. There were many strong individual results but the teams didn’t fare as well in the final team standings.
Brent Fryia, Chris Camarata, Mark Crockett, and Christina Jones all went undefeated while Jack Reed, Rachel Dean, Matt Lawrence, Clayton Sereres, and Emily McCague all posted records of 2 wins and l loss.
In the team standings the men placed 7th out of 7 teams even though they defeated the University of Guelph by a 22 to 18 score. Guelph won the silver medal in the team event. Lakehead lost duals to NY Community College (23 - 21) and the University of Western Ontario. Brock defeated Guelph in the men’s final.
On the women’s side, Lakehead defeated Guelph before losing a one point dual to Western (15 –14), and then losing to eventual team champions Cumberland College.
In the women’s team standings, Lakehead placed 6th. Cumberland defeated Brock U in the women’s final.
Head Coach Francis Clayton said it was hard to explain how a number of the Lakehead wrestlers performed so well, and yet both teams placed far below their expectations going into the tournament.
Lakehead’s wrestlers will be off until the Gord Garvie Memorial Wrestling Festival, which will be held in Thunder Bay on January 3, 2004.
