January 14th, 2006

The Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestling team enjoyed a lot of success Friday at the Golden Bear Open at the University of Alberta.  Six Thunderwolves medalled; led by golds from Chris Camarata, Dave Rector and Katie Patroch.  Tasha Eady took silver while Leah Daugherty and Andrew Elliot took bronzes.

On the women’s side; Patroch (59kg) captured her second gold medal of the year with wins over Jessica Peterson of SFU and Jazzie Barker of Calgary.  Tasha Eady (63kg) took a silver medal in a hard fought match between Justine Buchard of Calgary while Leah Daugherty (67kg) got her bronze with a 2-2 record.

On the mens side; Chris Camarata (54kg) kept his undefeated streak alive with wins over Ryan Lannon of Calgary, Kent Zeternberg Regina, and Raj Virdi of SFU.  This is Camarata’s fourth gold medal in four meets and he was also undefeated at the Lakehead National Duals Meet.   He has not lost a match in the 2005-06 varsity wrestling season.

Dave Rector (90 kg) got his gold with wins over Tim Kent of Saskatchewan, Ali Alrekah of SFU, Beamer Comfort of Calgary, and James Walker of Saskatchewan.  Andrew Elliot (76kg) took his brronze medal with a 3-1 record.  Clayton Serreres (61kg) was unable to wrestle for the Wolves due to a delay in flight.
