Wolves CIS Champs Preview

February 27th, 2006

The Lakehead Thunderwolves are sending a large contingent of wrestlers, six men and five women, to this weekend’s CIS national wrestling championships being hosted by Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.

The Wolves men will face competition from defending CIS champions Brock as well as teams like Calgary, Regina, and Simon Fraser.  On the women’s side, defending champs Simon Fraser look again to be strong as will teams from Western, Calgary, McMaster, and Saskatchewan.

Lakehead Head Coach Owen Dawkins said his young teams are up for the challenge of the nationals.  “We have a very young team traveling to this year’s CIS Championships.  Our men's and women’s teams have prepared long and hard for this event.   I expect that we will have some very strong results from both of our teams.”

Representing the men will be Chris Camrata (57 kg; OUA Gold), Clayton Sereres (61 kg; OUA Gold), Mitch Fryia (65 kg; OUA Gold), Andrew Elliot (76 kg; OUA Gold and OUA MVP), Dave Rector (90 kg; OUA Silver), and Darren Manion (130 kg; OUA Bronze).

Lakehead’s women are Tasha Eady (63 kg; OUA Silver), Emily McCaugue (72 kg; OUA Silver), Katie Patroch (59 kg; OUA Silver), Leah Dougherty (67 kg; OUA Silver), and Michelle Gorrie (48 kg; OUA Bronze).
