Dawkins Named Head Coach

May 12th, 2006

Lakehead Athletics Director Tom Warden is very happy to announce that Wrestling Coach Owen Dawkins has been appointed head coach for the men’s and women’s wrestling teams.  Dawkins, who was named OUA Men’s Wrestling Coach of the Year this season, was the on-the-mat coach for the Wolves this year while former Head Coach Francis Clayton was the program Manager.  Clayton has taken a new position with Lakehead Athletics and Coach Dawkins has now taken over the reins for a two-year term.

Warden said Lakehead Wrestling has a very capable leader at the helm.  “We’re glad to have secured Owen for two more years as he has proven to be an excellent coach this season and we’re very happy to have him take over as Head Coach.  I think Francis Clayton can be very happy knowing that the fantastic program he built is in very good hands with Coach Dawkins.”

Dawkins said he is ready to continue the strong tradition of Lakehead Wrestling.  “I am very pleased to be appointed the official head coach of the Lakehead University men’s and women’s wrestling teams. I am also very excited to be taking over a program that has such a long standing wining tradition in Canadian University wrestling.”
