The Lakehead Thunderwolves will be sending a contingent of wrestlers to Guelph, Ontario this weekend for the annual Guelph Open Meet. The Guelph Open is one of two national carding meets held in Canada each year and many of the top senior wrestlers in Canada will be taking part.
The Wolves will be sending eight men and two women to the meet and Lakehead Head Coach Owen Dawkins said his athletes will gain invaluable experience against some the best wrestlers in Canada. “This meet is one of two national carding meets; the other one being the Clan Open hosted by Simon Fraser University. Athletes compete to amass points that will help them to become nationally carded. Being carded means that you can get funding towards your school and living expenses. Our varsity team will be in tough this weekend but I am sure we will have some surprise performances.”
