The Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestling team will be sending six men and five women to London, Ontario this weekend for the annual Western Open meet.  Lakehead is coming off a women’s team gold and a men’s team bronze at last weekend’s Queen’s Open as well as impressive results at the Ontario Junior Provincial Championships.  Those team results were even more impressive due to the fact that the Lakehead contingent at Queen’s was mostly made up of junior aged wrestlers.

This weekend will be a very tough meet against some top competition.  Head Coach Owen Dawkins is sending a strong men’s squad and the core of the women’s team to the Western Open.  The Wolves will be looking for strong results from Gaston Tardiff, Drew St. Louis, Chad Lee, and Andrew Elliot on the men's side and from freshman sensation Nicolle Plummer, Tasha Eady, and Emily McCague on the women's side.

Coach Dawkins said his squads are keen to match up one more time on the mats before the OUA Wrestling championships.   “The Western Open is our last tune up meet before the OUA championships. This is a very tough women’s tournament, because two top US teams will be there so it should be a big challenge for our wrestlers.”
