Lakehead University

The Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestling teams were in Calgary, Alberta Saturday at the annual Dinos Open.  Lakehead posted some good results, winning four medals, although they did sustain some injuries to two of their top wrestlers. 

 

Huy Nguyen enjoyed a golden homecoming to his native Calgary as he took first in the 54kg weight category.  Gaston Tardiff took silver at 57kg and Chris Camarata and Josh Schug took bronzes at 61kg and 130kg respectively.  Mitch Fryia and Corey Lee were injured out of the competition. 

 

On the women’s side; freshman Emma Brightwell had a good meet; finishing fourth in her weight class. 

 

Lakehad Head Coach Owen Dawkins said the meet was educational for his squad.  “It was a very competitive tourney and a good learning experience for my wrestlers and I am pleased where we are at this point.”
