Lakehead’s women's wrestling team scored some great results at the McMaster Invitational wrestling meet in Hamilton, Ontario Sunday with freshman Emma Brightwell winning gold at 72kg, sophomore Nicole Plummer taking silver at 82kg, and freshman Jessica Bershatsky taking fourth at 48kg.
Brightwell’s gold medal was very noteworthy as she defeated a very strong opponent in Katie Crouch of the United States Olympic Olympic Education Centre; based at the University of Northern Michigan in Marquette, Michigan.
Lakehead Head Coach Owen Dawkins said he was happy with his squad’s development at this meet. “It was a good tourney and we are where we should be at this point of the year. We are in excellent condition and now it’s time to work more on the wrestling. I am very happy for Emma taking first; she wrestled very well. Nicole came very close to getting gold and Jessica had a strong meet as well.”
