Brightwell Golden at Guelph Open

Freshman Emma Brightwell, Lakehead’s only female competitor, took the gold medal Sunday at the prestigious Guelph Open Wrestling Meet in Guelph, Ontario. Brightwell, an Outdoor Recreation student and a Guelph native, thrilled family and friends in her hometown by taking gold in the 72 kg weight class.
The Guelph Open is an important carding event which pits varsity wrestlers against national team and senior wrestlers. Lakehead’s contingent of 10 men had a tough time against many national team members from both Canada and the USA and failed to medal.
Some of Lakehead’s younger wrestlers will now get ready for the Ontario Junior Provincial Championships next weekend in Orillia, Ontario.
