OUA Championships Results

The Lakehead Thunderwolves men's and women's varsity wrestling teams put in good performances Saturday in Hamilton, Ontario at the OUA Wrestling Championships; hosted by McMaster University. The men’s team captured team silver; runner’s up to 14-time consecutive OUA champs Brock; while the women’s squad finished fourth overall.
Lakehead sent 10 men and 5 women to the championships and each athlete medaled and earned a spot at the upcoming CIS National championships in Calgary Feb. 29th to Mar. 1st. Lakehead captured fifteen overall individual medals; one men’s gold, one women’s gold, five men’s silver, two women’s silver, four men’s bronze, and two women’s bronze.
The Wolves were led by gold medal performances from graduating senior Mitch Fryia (68kg) for the men and Nicole Plummer (82kg) for the women; who repeated as OUA champion.
Winning silver medals for Lakehead were Leah Dougherty (59kg) and Laurel Knowles (63kg) for the women’s squad and Brandon Gardiner (65kg), Andrew Elliott (76kg), Corey Lee (82kg) and Darren Manion (HWT) for the men’s team.
Taking bronze medals on the men’s side were Huy Nguyen, Gaston Tardiff, Chad Lee, and Colten Woznow and on the women’s side were Jessica Bershatsky and Tasha Eady.
