The Lakehead Thunderwolves men's and women's varsity wrestling teams put in a strong performance at the Ontario Senior Wrestling Championships in Guelph, Ontario Saturday.
Lakehead took one gold, two silvers, and two bronze in the championships which are open to all wrestlers above the age of 19.
The Wolves women saw a breakthrough performance from freshman Aislynn Torfason who placed second at 59 kg. Leah Daugherty improved upon last year’s silver medal finish by taking gold in the 63 kg weight class. Jessica Bershatsky took silver at 48 kg. Laurel Knowles was fourth at 67 kg.
On the men’s side; Ben Eaglestone took bronze at 96 kg while Colten Woznow took bronze at 84 kg and Corey Lee was fourth at 76 kg.
Head Coach Owen Dawkins said these championships were a great way to finish off the first half of the season. “Now our wrestlers can sit back and evaluate their first
half performance, and start preparing for the second half of the year where things become a little bit more serious as they start their run for the OUA and CIS championship titles.”
