February 1st, 2009

This weekend a contingent of Lakehead Thunderwolves men's and women's varsity wrestlers travelled to Hamilton, Ontario for the Ontario Junior Championships and the Wolves came away with their second straight menís team championship title and the men claimed three gold medals and a bronze while Lakeheadís single woman also won a gold medal.
The Ontario Junior Championships is a competition for young wrestlers from 18-19 years of age.   Lakehead sent nine men and one women to the championships.
For the men; the Wolves Tyson Frost defeated last yearís CIS Silver medalist to claim gold in the 96 kg weight class.  Colten Woznow also was golden at 84 kg as was Dustin Helwig at 55 kg.  Angelo Daniele took Bronze at 60kg.  Scott Christian placed fourth at 66 kg, and he lost the bronze due to injury as a back injury prevented him from taking part in the bronze medal match.
On the women's side; Lakeheadís sole wrestler, sophomore Emma Brightwell, continued her excellent season and took gold at 82 kg.  Freshman Aislynn Torfason was supposed to go but was injured in practice last week.
