Brightwell Wins Bob McLeod Scholarship

Lakehead Thunderwolves wrestler Emma Brightwell has been awarded the prestigious Bob McLeod Scholarship it was announced by Wrestling Canada; the governing body of Canadian wrestling and the Canadian national teams.
The Bob McLeod Scholarship is awarded annually to an age group national champion who has combined their wrestling pursuits with a solid academic performance entering or at the post-secondary level.
Brightwell, a sophomore Sociology student from Guelph, Ontario, is the Canadian and Ontario junior champion at 82 kg. She won OUA gold this past weekend at the OUA championships in St. Catharines, Ontario in the 82 kg weight class.
The Bob McLeod Scholarship is named after the long-serving member of the national association’s Executive Committee who passed away in 1985 and is supported by his family and their generous donations.

Wrestling is in the genes for Brightwell as her father Wayne was a Canadian national team wrestler at 100 kg; 1986 Commonwealth Games Gold Medalist, and wrestled at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. He was inducted into the University of Guelph Athletics Hall of Fame in 1987.
