Brightwell leads Wolves to strong effort at Brock Open

Senior Emma Brightwell (Guelph, Ontario) was the lone Thunderwolf to reach the top of the podium, leading six other teammates in the top three, at Saturdayís Brock Open at St. Catharines, Ontario. For Brightwell, the two-time defending Canadian Junior champion at 82 kg and 2009 CIS silver medalist, the tournament win was her second of the season.


Lakeheadís contingent of four womenís wrestlers performed well overall with senior Nicole Plummer (Windsor, Ontario) and junior Laurel Knowles (Desbarats, Ontario) each grabbing second place finishes. Aislynn Torfason finished fourth.


On the menís side, juniors Gaston Tardif (Calgary) and Brandon Gardner (Thunder Bay) were the top Wolves with second place results. Freshmen wrestlers Jason Bresele (Thunder Bay) and Dustin Helwig (Belfountain, Ontario) showed encouraging signs of their development in both grabbing third place podium placements.
