Lakehead Enhances Recruiting Class with McCrae and Isaac

September 3rd, 2010

Lakehead University Athletics announces the commitment of Kemp McCrae (Baltimore, MD) and Akeem Isaac (Toronto, ON) to attend Lakehead University and suit up for the varsity men’s basketball team. McCrae is a 6’7” post who graduated from Frederick Douglass high school.  Isaac is a 6’1” guard who spent time at Mother Theresa High School before attending God’s Academy in Dallas, TX.

Coach Scott Morrison notes the potential both recruits can offer the team’s long-term success: “We are eager to see Kemp and Akeem in training camp and to get them working with the team. They are first-rate athletes who have a high ceiling for excellence.”

McCrae is a 2009 high school graduate who spent two years in the workforce before returning to academics. He is expected to provide bench minutes in the post, and with five years of eligibility, he is eager to progress as an elite CIS player. “I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to play for Lakehead and look forward to settling into my new environment – helping Coach Morrison and the team any way I can,” says McCrae.

Akeem Isaac spent two years developing his game in the United States.  He is anxious to return to Ontario, particularly for his Lakehead debut.  He is an athletic guard expected to add defensive depth to the line up.  He is also an additional transition-playmaker.

Isaac notes that he’s experienced some challenging aspects in his athletic journey so far, but is excited to find a long-term home and to contribute to Lakehead’s basketball program.  “I can already tell Lakehead’s coaching staff and veteran players are dedicated to winning and being the best they can be,” he says.

McCrae and Isaac join Ben Johnson (Pictou, NS, via Saint Rose College, NY) and Venzal Russell (Detroit, MI, via Vermillion CC, MN) as the Thunderwolves’ 2010 recruiting class. Johnson and Russell, announced earlier this summer, are expected to add experience and athleticism to the team’s returning core.
