Eady Takes Bronze at World Juniors!
Lakehead wrestler Tasha Eady captured a bronze medal in the 63 kg weight class Thursday night at the World Junior Wrestling Championships in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Canadian national Junior Champ at 59kg from Renfrew, Ontario had a gruelling day of four matches on route to her bronze finish.
The second year Lakehead Nursing student began the day by defeating a very tough Turkish opponent in her first match with a pin. Coincidentally, the Turkish wrestler is the sister of Tasha's Lakehead teammate Yasin Kaya who will be wrestling for Canada at the FISU Summer Universiade in Inzmir, Turkey next month. Next up for Eady was a quarter-final matchup against Vietnamese grappler who took a first round lead but the Canadian stormed back in the second round and built up a 5-3 lead for the win by a pin.
The semi-final saw Eady lose a heartbreaker to a world ranked wrestler from India who has beaten all of Canada's top wrestlers in the past. However, the former Miss Renfrew beauty pageant winner put herself on the podium with a fantastic come from behind win over a Romanian wrestler (1-4, 3-0, 3-0) in the bronze medal match.
Tuesday saw Lakehead's Dave Rector lose his first round match against Mindarigax Rumbutis of Lithuania and bow out and Wednesday fellow Thunderwolf Chris Camarata was knocked out in the first round against a wrestler from Azerbaijian.
